Sometimes things get a little fuzzy after an evening in the pub. Especially when the Padres score 10 runs seemingly out of thin air against the other team’s ace. So here’s a friendly reminder of what you might have missed while you were drinking.
The Padres (16-21) defeated the Miami Marlins (20-16), 10-1, thanks to Jedd Gyorko‘s two home runs against Marlins’ ace Jose Fernandez (4-2, 2.24).
Gyorko’s first home run was a 2-run, opposite field shot in the second inning that just barely made it into the Whiskey Deck in right field. His second, a grand slam to left field with no outs in the sixth inning, ended Fernandez’s night at 6 runs (all earned) on 6 hits and a walk with 5 strikeouts.
Meanwhile, Tyson Ross (4-3, 3.02) held the Marlins to just one run, a solo home run from Marcell Ozuna in the seventh inning.
Alexi Amarista & Will Venable added an RBI each and Seth Smith added two of his own with an eighth inning double.
Tonight at 5:40 pm PDT, Eric Stults takes the mound and the Friars will try to keep their offensive fortunes going against the Marlins’ Nathan Eovaldi. It’s a PETCO Park 10-Year Anniversary Canvas Art giveaway tonight too.

Of course the #Padres light up Jose Fernandez. Of course. Sports, man.

Each run the Padres score tonight increases the odds that they get no-hit by Eovaldi tomorrow.
